Ignoring the NaNo No No

Haven’t done any new writing today. It’s just one of those days when I know exactly where I want to go next with the story, but I’m not sure how to get there. There are several different paths I could take, but I’m not in the mood to make decisions. And I still added about 500 words this morning. How? By doing what too many new NaNoers have been brainwashed into believing they’re not supposed to do — editing. I read through my first five days and found plenty of places where an idea could be expressed better, where a transition that I only thought existed was waiting to be created, where a little bit of description made the scene flow better, etc. That 500 words brought my total to 28k.

Instead of having to look back at a wasted, non-productive morning, I upped my word count and closed the gap between the first and second drafts by a satisfying amount.
